The portions are huge and the food is good but the decor could use some updating or maybe just a bit more lighting.
I went to Vel's with my family after my cousins wake. I've been there before and have tried several different things on the menu, I was never thrilled with any of it. OK, so maybe I'm ordering the wrong things? Or maybe it's just me? My whole family and friends love it there so I was stuck going.
My family has been going there for years. It was my grandfathers favorite place to go! He recently passed and when my grandmother and I went there, and the staff heard of his passing, they embraced her and sat and talked to her. It was so lovely to see that they cared so much. The staff is always nice and the food is great. Huge portions for a good price. The inside could use some updating but it's homely and comfortable and a great place to go for a quick bite or family outing!
I ordered the bacon blue burger (medium)..... Well, it came out well done, the bacon was well done/burnt too. I liked the roll, it was very thin not bulky. I had a cup of beef barley soup, it was made very good. The service was excellent!

Everyone who works here is absolutely wonderful, it kinda feels like home.
